Conservation

Resource Management Associates incorporates conservation in all projects in order to maintain and enhance conservation
values whenever possible. Conservation Easements, Invasive Plant species control, tidal and non-tidal wetland restoration, and landscape planning and installation are some of the main conservation services provided to our clients. Most if not all properties are capable of producing "conservation services and values" concurrent with meeting the objectives of the landowners.

Conservation Easements

We have represented clients in the development of Conservation Easements from Massachusetts through Georgia. Currently we have supported the development and implementation of 22 easement projects on more than 13,500 acres. These easements are held by multiple state, federal and private non-profit organizations.

We feel a very deliberate and cautious approach should be followed in that most easements are perpetual and many of the easement holders have quite different terms and conditions which must be carefully evaluated to minimize unintended, adverse consequences. In addition to federal estate and income tax benefits, many states offer unique benefits that should be considered and evaluated according to the short- and long-term needs of the landowner.

Invasive Plant Species Control

RMA holds a Pesticide Business license in the State of Virginia with certifications in Landscape, Forestry, Aquatic, Right of Way and Research/Demonstration. Our clients include private landowners, Homeowners Associations, the National Park Service and several US Army installations throughout Virginia. We have treated several invasive plant species including, Phragmities in tidal wetlands, Ailanthus, China Berry, Japanese Stilt Grass, Kudzu, Privet, Autumn Olive, and Pawlownia. Our biological and botanical training sets us apart from other invasive plant species control applicators in that we fully understand the character and the habitats of the targeted vegetation and perform follow-up monitoring to insure successful control.

Tidal Wetland Restoration

Resource Management Associates specializes in "soft" shoreline stabilization on low wave energy sites, using native tidal wetland vegetation to deflect and dissipate wave energy before reaching and eroding upland areas. Careful analysis of wave energy is required to determine if soft techniques are appropriate.
